We just got a phone call from Chevrolet – “the 2012 Volt will be dropped off tomorrow.”
Now this would be our second Chevy vehicle that we have have reviewed. The first car we reviewed was the “>2012 Chevy Equinox LTZ. But the Volt could not be anymore different and it’s the first electric car that we have ever reviewed. So Jessie and I are very excited!
The Volt runs on two power sources — electricity and gas. I am impressed that when the Volt is in electric mode it can run up to 35 miles. But when the Volt is running on gas it can run up to a mind blowing 375 miles.
“I was actually in control of how much gas I consumed, and it was a powerful feeling,” says Joe Nocera an automotive journalist, after driving Volt. If you want to drive using only electricity, you can. If you want to drive using electricity and gas, you can do that too. Volt is first for two very good reasons.”
So I never thought I would ever say this — “honey did you forget to charge the Volt again?”
Yep, the Volt needs to be charged if you want to run on electricity. And how — pray tell — does the Volt get charged? Well, you can either use a standard 120V charging kit that allows you to plug into a conventional electrical outlet. The Volt will fully charge in about 10 hours. Or you can have a 240V charging station which requires professional installation. The Volt will charge in approximately four hours.
I don’t know about you but I am thinking charging station — simply for the cool factor. There are many more features available on the Volt, like the — OnStar RemoteLink — but we will follow up with additional features and our first thoughts when we get a chance to kick the tires.
