Even though they were not fighting for gold, Germany today proved that bronze is worth fighting for. Even with many of their players out to injuries, the Germans were able to rally and in the end beat the South American country.
Sami Khedira’s 82nd-minute header earned Germany a 3-2 victory in an exciting and rain-soaked 2010 World Cup Third Place play-off match.
The 23-year-old Stuttgart midfielder rose to nod the ball beyond Fernando Muslera, after Uruguay failed to clear a late corner, while Diego Forlan came inches away from a dramatic equalizer with an injury-time free-kick that struck the crossbar.
